How to Take Control of Yourself.
How do you make yourself a better person? How do you turn yourself into the best possible version of you? What characteristics are needed? What habits are needed? How do you take control of your life and steer it into the exact place that you want to go?
How do you do it?
Let’s start at the beginning. Where do you want to go? What is your destination? Is that the beginning? I don’t think so. I don’t think that is where you need to start.
Who are you? Before you can dive into trying to figure out where you want to go you need to spend a few minutes figuring out who you are. Who are you?
Take a look at all aspects of your life. Physically, mentally, emotionally, even literally. Where in the world are you? Is it where you want to be?
Once you figure out who you are you can determine what you like and dislike about yourself. You can determine what needs to be changed and what needs to be enhanced. You can start to build a model of the perfect person, the best possible version of yourself.
This is who I am.
- I am an optimistic person who more often than not sees life from a positive point of view.
- I’m also a bit of a worrier who sometimes becomes crippled with fear of the unknown.
- I am a dreamer who believes that anything is possible.
- I struggle to build momentum in my endeavors.
- I am a loving father and husband.
- I am often impatient and sometimes lose my temper due to stress.
- I am a writer.
- I don’t write everyday.
You must be honest with yourself so that you can see exactly who you are. This will help you figure out what characteristics of your personality you want to ditch.
It’s obvious to see what parts of me I NEED to change. But I would never know unless I first see them. It’s not enough to think about them. You must write them down, get them out there and address them.
Once you know exactly who you are you can move on to the next step.
Where do you want to go?
I have heard a lot of lifestyle entrepreneurs who suggest an exercise called The Perfect Day exercise. Basically it’s you sitting down and designing your perfect day. From the moment you wake up to the moment you lay down.
What time do you get up? What’s the first thing you do? Where are you? What do you eat for breakfast? What makes up your day? Do you work, spend time with the kids, hang out with your significant other? Where do you eat lunch and dinner? Do you exercise? What do you do in the evening? What time do you go to bed? What makes up your perfect day?
Why aren’t you living that life? Do you believe that you can have that life? If not, why? If so, why aren’t you taking strides to get there?
You have two assignments. Spend ten to fifteen minutes figuring out who you are. Then complete the Perfect Day exercise. Once these exercises are completed you will be ready to move forward with creating the best possible version of yourself.
The time to take control of your life is NOW. Congratulations.
