That’s a lot of weight. Forty-five pounds is a bunch. Currently, I am 6 feet tall and weigh 230 pounds. The most that I have weighed in a while. My pants are all a little tight and I’m not exactly thrilled with the way I look.
From what I read on the Health sites, I see that my ideal weight is somewhere between 165-185. I was 185 in high school (AKA before College) and thought was pretty ideal for me. So 185 is the goal. 45 Pounds less than my current weight.
How long will it take?
From what I understand, 2 pounds per week is a good amount of weight to lose when you are shooting for a large number like 45. I have lost 20 pounds in a month before so it is possible to lose more than 2 per week but I think a few pounds a week is a good number for a lengthy period like 5 months.
I am going to strive for 2.1 pounds per week which will put me at 185 by the first day of Summer, 2015. exactly 150 days from now.
What Makes this a Quest?
According to Chris Guillebeau, author of three of the best books you will find, a quest has a few specific characteristics: a clear goal, a real challenge, and a set of milestones along the way.
The Clear Goal: To Lose 45 pounds by the 6/21/2015.
The Real Challenge: To return to a weight that I have not seen in 18 years, my high school graduating weight.
Milestones Along the Way: There will be 5 milestones along the way, 220, 210, 200, 190 and the final goal-185 pounds
How will I lose 45 pounds in 150 days?
Good question. Here are a few methods I will use right from the start;
- Limit alcohol intake drastically. Especially during the week. Alcohol should only be consumed on “special” occasions.
- Drink massive amounts of water. Aim for a gallon a day.
- Decrease salty foods. (chips, pretzels, and other snacks)
- Decrease sweet foods (chocolates, cakes, donuts, etc.)
- Increase vegetables. Especially in smoothies.
What books or diet plans will I use?
I previously used the ideas from The 4-Hour Body to drop a significant amount of weight. 4HB suggests you avoid white carbs (bread, rice, etc) eat 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking, avoid fruit, eat vegetables, drink a ton of water, and have a cheat day once a week. Beer is not allowed but 2 glasses of red wine per day is. Also, the only exercise Ferriss recommends in the 4HB is 75-Kettlebell swings 3 times per week.
I will use many of these ideas going forward. Red wine is something I may not allow as often times two glasses turns into 3 and sometimes 4. This does not make for a productive next day. I’m currently also on a quest to run a 5K in every state over the course of the next 5 years so in addition to the kettlebell swings I will also be running 3-4 miles, 3 times per week.
The Gabriel Method
The Gabriel Method is a book that suggests a diet-free way to transform your body. I asked for this book for Christmas but honestly don’t know anything about it. I’ll open it up tonight and start to dive in. From what I gather, it looks like the book suggests transforming your mind to help control your weight. We shall see…
So there it is. 45 pounds, 150 days. What do you think? Are you up for the challenge??
